The Next Big Thing in Technology: Internet of Things

Internet of Things or IoT, as a concept, has been around for a couple of years. We can define IOT as a network of sensors where data is exchanged using different connectivity protocols with systems. That means it is a system of interrelated computing devices, objects, mechanical and digital machines, animals or people. They are provided with special identifiers which have the ability to transfer data over the network without requiring human interference.
HOW DOES IT WORK:
IOT is the next big thing in technology front which involves machine to machine communication. The communication across machine is facilitated by a network of sensors that gather data and interact with other objects that are connected to the web.
This new wave of connectivity is going beyond laptops and smartphones. It’s going towards connected cars, smart homes, connected wearables, smart cities and connected healthcare. Basically a connected life. It’s simply a smart device that helps to automate our lives or lifestyles.
Google cloud, on February 21, launched, out of beta, its services for managing connected electronic devices. The cloud IOT core offering from Google is a solution for managing the connection of IoT devices, like sensors, with Google cloud, as well as the feasibility to gather data to and from those devices.  Cloud-based applications interpret and transmit the incoming data from the plethora of sensors across the machine to facilitate m2m interaction.
Smart devices or connected devices are designed in such a way that they capture and utilize every bit of data you share or use in everyday life.

USES OF IOT IN PRACTICAL LIFE:
Imagine that there is a shortage of food supplies in your house, how it would be if the retailer is automatically notified of the shortage. The retailer packs those suppliers and you receive a message and an email to pick up the supplies while going home from office or college. Won’t that exciting?  This is how IOT does work.
Below are the uses of some smart IoT devices which you may eager to use:
1)Smart homes:
Smart homes are like you could switch on the air conditioning before reaching home or switch off lights even after you have left home. Yes, it is possible as IOT taking shape companies are building products to make your life simpler and convenient. Companies like Nest, RING, and August to name a few will become household brands and are planning to deliver a never seen before experience.
2) Wearable:
Wearable devices cover fitness, health, and entertainment requirements. Wearable has experienced tremendous demand in markets all over the world. Companies like Google, Samsung, have invested heavily in building such devices.
3) Connected Cars:
The automotive digital technology focussed on optimizing internal functions of vehicles. A connected car is such a vehicle which itself can able to optimize its own operation, maintenance, and comfort level of the passengers using a broad sensor and internet connectivity. Major brands like Testa, BMW, Apple, and Google are working on bringing the next revolution in automobiles.
4) Industrial internet:
In factories or industrial sectors, too much importance is given to create brilliant machines so that productivity can be increased. As smart machines are more accurate and consistent than humans, IoT can really play a vital role here.
5) Smart cities:
In smart cities, IOT plays a vital role. It considers the matters of public safety and health, traffic control, resource management etc.

In short, IoT has enormous prospects with huge demand, which has the capacity to change our lives in a more advanced way and make it easier than never before.
